World Wetlands Day: 2nd February

World Wetlands Day is celebrated every year internationally on 2 February. Its aim to spread awareness and to conserve the wetlands all over the world.

Theme: “Wetlands and Biodiversity

The Day also marks the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on 2 February 1971, in the Iranian city of Ramsar on the shores of the Caspian Sea.

Novak Djokovic Won the men’s singles title of Australian Open 2020

Serbia’s Novak Djokovic won his record 8th Men’s singles title in the Australian Open at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne.

Madhya Pradesh bags first position for implementation of PMMVY

Madhya Pradesh (MP) state won the 1st position for its implementation of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY).

Madhya Pradesh’s Minister for Women and Child Development Imarti Devi and Principal Secretary Anupam Rajan received the award from Union Minister of Women and Child Development Smriti Irani for the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

Indore district has also bagged the first place among the districts for better performance of the scheme.

Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY)

Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) is a maternity benefit programme being implemented in all districts of the country with effect from 1st January 2017

All Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers (PW&LM), excluding those who are in regular employment with the Central Government or the State Governments or PSUs or those who are in receipt of similar benefits under any law for the time being in force.

Beneficiaries receive a cash benefit of Rs. 5,000 in three instalments

Mohammed Tawfiq Allawi appointed as new Prime Minister of Iraq

Mohammed Tawfiq Allawi appointed as the Iraq President by its President Barhim Salih.

His predecessor Adel Abdul Mahdi resigned in November anti-government demonstrations.

Mr. Allawi has a month to form a new government, which he will lead until early elections.

Mohammed Allawi served twice as communications minister under Former PM Nouri al-Maliki.

Indian Navy Conducts Coastal Security Exercise ‘Matla Abhiyan’ in Kolkata

Indian Navy has carried out a 5-day long coastal security exercise called, ‘Matla Abhiyaan’ at Sunderban region in Kolkata, West Bengal.

This exercise is conducted to spread awareness about the coastal security to the local community & understand the navigational complexities in the Sunderban delta waters.

During the exercise, the Navy interacted with the local community to make them aware of the coastal security and also carried out activity to understand the navigational complexities in the Sundarbans Delta.

Deepa Malik elected as President of Paralympic Committee of India

Indian para-athlete and Padma Shri awardee Deepa Malik elected as President of the Paralympic Committee of India.

The 49-year-old Deepa malik from Haryana is the first Indian woman to win a medal at Paralympic Games.

Deepa Malik won a silver in shot put F-53 event in the 2016 Rio Paralympic games.

Pramod Agrawal takes over as Coal India chairman

Pramod Agrawal became the new Chairman & Managing Director (MD) of Coal India Limited (CIL).

He was the successor of Anil Kumar Jha who retired on 31st January 2020.

Pramod Agrawal, a 1991 batch IAS officer, was principal secretary for departments of technical education, skill development and labour of the Madhya Pradesh.

Gopal Baglay appointed as Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka

Diplomat Shri Gopal Baglay has been appointed as the Next High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka.

Gopal Baglay, a 1992 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer. He also served as The Spokesperson in the Ministry of External Affairs and Deputy High Commissioner of India to Pakistan.

Currently Baglay serving as Joint Secretary at the Prime Minister of India’s(PMO) Office.

Baglay succeeds Taranjit Singh Sandhu in Sri Lanka.

NADA Suspends Weightlifter Ramshad AR for 2 Years and Wrestler Ravinder Kumar for 4 Years

The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) banned Indian weightlifter Ramshad AR for a period of 2 years after he was found guilty of violating the anti-doping rule.

Indian wrestler Ravinder Kumar was banned for a 4-year period by NADA for failing the dope test.

Ajay Bisaria Appointed as Next High Commissioner of India to Canada

Shri Ajay Bisaria has been appointed as the next High Commissioner of India to Canada

Bisaria is going to replace Vikas Swarup who served as High Commissioner of India to Canada.

Bisaria is an IFS (Indian Foreign Service) officer batch 1987. He previously served as High Commissioner of India to Pakistan.
