Shaktikanta Das wins ‘Central Banker of the Year 2020’ for the Asia-Pacific region

The Reserve Bank of India governor Shaktikanta Das has been named the ‘Central Banker of the Year 2020’ for the Asia-Pacific region by financial intelligence magazine The Banker.

As per Banker magazine, Shaktikanta Das has made many efforts to improve India’s banking system from NPAs (non-performing assets) loans to banks struggling with fraud.

Waheeda Rehman to be honoured with Kishore Kumar Samman by MP Govt

The Veteran actor Waheeda Rehman will be honoured the Madhya Pradesh government’s National Kishore Kumar Samman.

The award, for the year 2018, will be given to Rehman at her Bandra residence in Mumbai by Madhya Pradesh Culture Minister Vijaylaxmi Sadho.

Rehman, one of Hindi film industry’s most successful leading ladies with a string of box office hits and several awards.

Amazon India has partnered with Eastern Railways inorder to set up a pick-up kiosk at the Sealdah railway station in Kolkata, West Bengal.

A kiosk is a small open-fronted hut or cubicle from where newspapers, refreshments, tickets will be sold.

This tie up with the Amazon India, will help Indian Railways meet its freight and passenger earning targets.

Eminent Hindi poet-novelist and Sahitya Akademi awardee Vinod Kumar Shukla has won the inaugural Mathrubhumi Book of the Year award.

He won the award for his translated book “Blue Is Like Blue “.

Punjab government bans online lottery schemes

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh decided to ban the sale of all types of online lottery schemes in the state.

The ban, under Section 5 of the Lotteries (Regulation) Act 1998, would not only check illegal lottery business but also give a boost to the state’s tax and non-tax revenue.

Maldives rejoins Commonwealth as 54th member

Maldives officially re-joined the Commonwealth on February 1, 2020 and became the 54th member of the Commonwealth Union.

Maldives joined the Commonwealth in 1982 and withdrew its membership in 2016 upon the decision of the then President Abdulla Yameen over the charges of corruption and deteriorating human rights in the country.
