Union Cabinet clears the setting up of Vadhavan Port in Maharashtra
The cabinet has given its ‘in-principle’ approval for setting up a Major Port at Vadhavan near Dahanu in Maharashtra at a cost of Rs.65,544.54 crore.
The new Major Port will be established on the basis of land lord model.
A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) will be formed with Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) as the lead partner.
This is part of the government’s plan to develop infrastructure projects with a cost of ₹100-lakh crore over the next five years.
India ranked 40th in International Intellectual Property (IP) Index 2020

East Asia Summit on Maritime Cooperation to be held in Chennai
The 4th East Asia Summit (EAS) Conference on Maritime Security Cooperation will be held in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
The first conference was organized in Delhi in 2015.
The fourth conference is being organized by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in partnership with the Governments of Australia and Indonesia.

International Day of Zero Tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation is observed globally on 6 February.
It was observed since 2003, as part of the UN’s efforts to eradicate Female Genital Mutilation and to spread the awareness about FGM which is a violation of the human rights of girls and women.
