Union Cabinet clears the setting up of Vadhavan Port in Maharashtra

The cabinet has given its ‘in-principle’ approval for setting up a Major Port at Vadhavan near Dahanu in Maharashtra at a cost of Rs.65,544.54 crore.

The new Major Port will be established on the basis of land lord model.

A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) will be formed with Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) as the lead partner.

This is part of the government’s plan to develop infrastructure projects with a cost of ₹100-lakh crore over the next five years.

India ranked 40th in International Intellectual Property (IP) Index 2020

India has been ranked at 40th position among 53 global economies in the 2020 International Intellectual Property (IP) Index.

East Asia Summit on Maritime Cooperation to be held in Chennai

The 4th East Asia Summit (EAS) Conference on Maritime Security Cooperation will be held in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

The first conference was organized in Delhi in 2015.

International Day of Zero Tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation is observed globally on 6 February.

Rakhi Halder bags gold at Senior Women’s National Weightlifting Championships

Rakhi Halder of Bengal claimed gold in the 64kg category of the 35th edition of the Senior Women’s National Weightlifting Championships at Khudiram Anushilan Kendra in Kolkata.

Halder is ranked 19th in the Olympic qualifiers list and she has a personal best of 218 kg at the Qatar International Cup last year to win the bronze medal.
