Tamil Nadu to observe Minorities Rights Day every year on 18 December
- The Tamil Nadu government has announced that December 18, every year will be observed as Minorities Rights Day at the state level.
- The state government promotes the upliftment and economic advancement of the minorities through effective implementation of schemes and welfare measures.
- The minority girl students in rural areas to pursue their studies would provide education aid of Rs 500 to the students of Classes 3 to 5 and Rs 1,000 to the wards of Class 6.

India will host 21st World Congress of Accountants 2022
- Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) will host the 21st World Congress of Accountants (WCOA) for the first time in 118 years.
- About 6000 top accountants from 130 countries will participate in the programme physically. The event will be held from November 18 to 21 after outbidding France.
- The event will be held at Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. The theme for 2022 would be `Building Trust Enabling Sustainability’.

Robert Golob elected as Prime Minister of Slovenia
- Robert Golob has defeated three-time prime minister Janez Janša in the Slovenia Prime Minister election.
- State election authorities have confirmed that the Freedom Movement won nearly 34% of the votes as compared to around 24% for the governing conservative Slovenian Democratic Party. The New Slovenia party with 7%, followed by the Social Democrats with more than 6%, and the Left party with just 4%.

Ashwin Yardi appointed co-chair of UNICEF’s YuWaah board
- UNICEF’s YuWaah (Generation Unlimited India) has appointed Ashwin Yardi, CEO of Capgemini in India, as its co-chair.
- He will be a co-chair along with Yasumasa Kimura (the UNICEF Representative). YuWaah aims to work on improving skilling, community development and economic opportunity for young people.
- It is a platform that brings young people together with the private sector, governments, and international and local organisations to turn them into active and engaged citizens.

NMDC conferred with Public Relations Awards 2022 by PRSI
- The National Mineral Development Corporation Ltd (NMDC) has been conferred the Public Relations Awards 2022 by the Public Relations Society of India (PRSI).
- Shri Srinivasa Rao, DGM (Corporate Communications) received the awards on behalf of the Navratna PSU. The award was presented to the mining company for its Corporate Website, Annual Report, Newsletter Layout and Design, and CSR Corporate Video.

Kishore Kumar Das of Bangladesh won UK’s Commonwealth Points of Light Award
- The founder of educational charity ‘Bidyanando’ Kishore Kumar Das from Bangladesh has been chosen for the Commonwealth Points of Light Award for his exceptional work in improving access to education for children from marginalised backgrounds.
- Kishore Das setup Bidyanando in 2013 with just 22 students. It now runs five primary schools which provide free education as well as academic coaching sessions and scholarship programmes to help children continue into higher education.
- Kishore has also started a meal programme, ‘Ek takay aahar’ (Meal for one Taka), which has provided more than 10,000 nutritious meals for vulnerable people, particularly children and those who are homeless. During the Corona pandemic, Bidyanondo ramped up its effort to distribute relief across the country.
- Commonwealth Point of Light Awards recognise outstanding individual volunteers who are making a change in their community.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen won Formula One Emilia Romagna Grand Prix 2022 in Italy
- Formula One champion Max Verstappen (Red Bull-Netherlands) won the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.
- It was Verstappen’s second win this season after Saudi Arabia, which has also included two retirements, and the 22nd of his career.
- Sergio Perez (Red Bull-Mexico) finished second and Lando Norris (McLaren-UK) finished third.

Andrey Rublev defeated Novak Djokovic to won Serbia Open title
- Andrey Rublev (Russian) has defeated world No. 1 Novak Djokovic (Serbia) to win his third title in the Serbia Open.
- Andrey Rublev has saved five set points in the second set to force a tie-break, but he was unable to prevent Djokovic from levelling the match.
- Rublev has now equalled Rafael Nadal (Spain) for the most tour-level titles in 2022 He also clinched crowns in Marseille and Dubai in February 2022.
Indian GM D. Gukesh won Menorca Open chess tournament in Menorca, Spain
- Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh won the Menorca Open chess tournament, his second title win in as many weeks. Gukesh also gained 13.4 ELO points and climbed into the top 80 of the world rankings.
- The 15-year-old GM scored six points from seven rounds to clinch first place and earned 1,600 Euros as prize money. Gukesh defeated fellow Indian B Adhiban in the seventh and final round to cap an impressive performance during which he remained undefeated.
- Indian players dominated, taking seven spots in the top 10 with Aryan Chopra finishing runner-up. India’s Aryan Chopra finished second with 5.5 points while Armenia’s Shant Sargsyan took the third place.
- Indian GM S P Sethuraman took the fifth place, with 5.5 points. Countrymen Raunak Sadhwani, Nihal Sarin, the fast-rising Arjun Erigaisi and Adhiban finished seventh to 10th respectively.

24 April: International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace
- The International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace is observed globally on 24 April.
- ‘International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace’ was established on 12 December 2018 through resolution A/RES/73/127 and was first observed by the United Nations (UN) on April 24, 2019.
- The day aims to spread knowledge about the advantages of multilateralism and diplomacy for peace, including through educational and public awareness-raising activities.

- Every year on April 25, the world celebrates International Delegates Day. This day is commemorated to increase awareness of the function of Member States‘ representatives and delegates at the United Nations.
- The United Nations is brought to life by This organisation would not exist if it weren’t for them. They work with their home countries to establish agreements and cooperate.
- The first day of the San Francisco Conference, also known as the United Nations Conference on International Organization, is commemorated on International Delegates Day. Delegates from fifty countries met in San Francisco for the first meeting on April 25, 1945.
- The General Assembly, in resolution 73/286 dated 2 April 2019, recalls the accomplishments of the San Francisco Conference and declares 25 April as International Delegates Day.
25 April: World Malaria Day
- World Malaria Day is celebrated and observed on 25 April every year to raise awareness about this life-threatening disease that continues to pose a threat to mankind.
- Malaria, a disease caused by parasites, is spread to humans through the bite of an infected mosquito. This day is to bring global attention to the efforts being made to bring an end to malaria and encourage action to reduce suffering and death from the disease.
- World Malaria Day was started from Africa Malaria Day which was first held in 2008. It was basically an event that had been observed since 2001 by African governments.
- The 60th session of the World Health Assembly (WHA) by the world health organization (WHO) in 2007 proposed that Africa Malaria Day be changed to “World Malaria Day” to identify the existence of malaria in the countries worldwide and to bring awareness among people.

Obituary
Noted writer Padma Shri Binapani Mohanty passed away
- Eminent writer of Odisha and Padma Shri awardee (2020) Binapani Mohanty has passed away. She was born in Berhampur, started her teaching career as a lecturer in Economy in 1960.
- Her many short stories have been translated various languages (including: Hindi, English, Kannada, Marathi). Her collection of short stories ‘Pata Dei’ has won Sahitya Akademi award. She also received Sarala Samman from the Government of Odisha.
Veteran Congress leader K. Sankaranarayanan passed away
- Senior leader of Congress K Sankaranarayanan has passed away at the age of 89. He served as governor of Maharashtra, Nagaland, and Jharkhand during his career.
- He had also held additional charges of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Goa as Governor. He was elected to the state assembly from Trithala, Sreekandapuram, Ottapalam and Palakkad constituencies.
- He was a minister in Kerala’s UDF governments led by former Chief Ministers A K Antony and K Karunakaran.
Former President of Kenya Mwai Kibaki passed away
- Former president of Kenya, Mwai Kibaki passed away at 90. He led the country from 2002 to 2013.
- During his rule, more than 1,100 people died in bloody ethnic battles after disputed 2007 polls, but to prevent such unrest he adopted new constitution with reforms.
- His rule was ruined by uncontrolled corruption and lavish spending on flagship projects which increased country’s debt.
